Yesterday the chickens were free ranging, including Mouse & her chicks.
I noticed after a few minutes that Mouse had decided to head to the main flock's coop and got into the nesting box. I saw her baby chicks had followed after her and were in there with her. I went to see what she was doing.
She was freaking out and trying to move every single egg underneath her. Her baby chicks just assumed that it was early bedtime and tried to squeeze in underneath her. She didn't push her chicks away or anything.

Why does she want to sit on the eggs?

Mouse is a 2 yr old Bantam Cochin/Silkie mix.
All 6 baby chicks that she's currently raising will be 3 weeks old on Thursday.

Is she staying on the nest like a broody? Cochins and Silkies are both broody breeds, from my personal experience. She may be getting back into it again. I had it happen with one of my Silkie hens once. Her babies stayed with her until her brood ended.

I agree, I think she's broody again! If it's any help our broody weaned her chicks around 3 weeks and they were fine, so don't worry too much about her current chicks :) She loves being a mom I guess! :gig
Could be wrong though. Is she still sitting on the nest?

So an update.
She's currently in her own yard right now so no, she's not on the eggs still. Yesterday after everyone had their half hour of free range, I put them back in their own yards.
And right now, I can't get her more chicks as my parents told me that I can't buy any more chicks until next spring.

Smart parents ;)

Is she sleeping with her chicks?
