Why does this coop say it will house 12 - 15 chickens?

of course, on the other hand, I wasn't suggesting that I should house 20 birds with 12 sq ft of space, either. Anyone with eyes could see that just wouldn't work.

as for the cuddling....well, I do ask them, "how's the babies?" when I go to feed them and at night Roy always tells them, "goodnight, ladies."

Our grandmothers packed as many chickens in as small a space as possible, they had a family to feed...and they slept four kids to a double bed too...at least where I come from. Three bedroom houses and 13 kids...so lets not even go there with the chickens...anyway, I am one that says "whatever works for you...by all means do it"
When my birds freeranged I kept them at 2 sq ft and had no problems whatsover. In winter when closed in three square feet is alot in this neck of the woods. So um, yes, I would definitely say that when chickens become pets alot of things change. If times ever get tough you'll see people packing them in...for their own survival

What, didn't Granny take pictures of eye glasses on chicks?

Oh yeah, no digital cameras back then.

My mom wrung their necks by hand when it was time for dinner.

If you are just looking at chickens, and don't know how much space they need then a coop reasonably priced that holds a dozen chickens is AWESOME. They can say that TECHNICALLY it will hold them, and get away with it. It's a shame.
