Why does this egg look like this??

Hello Chicken friends! I noticed this egg had all these spots. Whats up with that? The base color is normal. All 5 lay identical eggs. The splattered spots over this egg has me curious! Thanks and I hope all your chickens are thriving

The small brown spots are a normal egg color. Like freckles!

Umm... I believe that this is be normal. My chickens lay spotted eggs a lot!

The speckles usually result when an egg spins more slowly than "normal" as it leaves the oviduct, resulting in additional "paint being applied to the egg shell. Welsummers commonly lay speckled eggs, while with some other breeds/individuals it is an every now and then thing. I get speckled eggs from my Welsummers daily, from my ISA Browns every now and then. I think the speckles are pretty!

'Speckled' eggs can happen for several different reasons...very few, if any, of which are a 'problem'.
Can be caused by:
Excess or uneven pigment coating.
Excess or uneven cuticle(bloom).
Excess calcium deposits.
Porous eggs can appear speckled.
Some birds lay them consistently, some only once in awhile.
The pigment or bloom can change appearance when wet, then change back when dry again.


As long as bird is getting a good diet and is healthy in every other way, it is no cause for concern.
