Why don’t my threads get answered?

I’m new to forums in general, and autistic as heck so I often have trouble with social norms/etiquette although I always try to be polite. But I’ve posted twice on the forum for “What breed or gender is this” and gotten no responses while the posts above and below mine get plenty. Am I forum-ing wrong somehow? Is there an algorithm or something? I’m just very confused and want to learn how to use this site properly.

I’m sure you’re asking the questions just fine! I find some days EVERYONE answers the “What breed, what sex” threads, and sometimes it’s just crickets out there.
Try again here, but be forewarned I’m no good at it 🙂

Welcome fellow autistic. Eh, it happens, happened to me too. Especially if someone posts right after you, yours can get skipped. I wouldn't take it personally. I've found everyone here really, really friendly and helpful.
Thanks, actually literally seconds after I posted this someone finally replied, I was just worried that I was doing something wrong on the technical side that was hiding my posts or something, I don’t know. But thank you!

Also there are so, so many 'what breed/gender is this' questions here, I'm not surprised some get missed.

Thanks, now that I think about it, it might also be that I’m raising a very rare breed so some people might feel like they don’t know enough to answer? I guess I might have been overthinking it too much 🤦🏽‍♀️

I see that you only posted that thread a little less than an hour ago. Sometimes threads are answered immediately, other times it takes a few hours, even days to get a response. For the breed and gender section, those threads typically get responses in a few hours. Keep in mind what time of day you are posting. For many right now, people are getting off of work, eating meals, or it's getting late into the night, which means less activity currently on BYC.

Fair enough, I didn’t think of that. I just saw that other threads newer than mine were getting replies, and wondering if I was doing something wrong. I get anxious very easily. I hope I didn’t sound like I was guilt-tripping or looking for sympathy, I know I’m not good at communicating or reading tone online or IRL. Thank you very much for replying, too!

There are multiple reasons why a post isn't answered immediately. It's nothing personal, nor is it the way you're posting, nor is there a messed up algorithm. Stay calm, be patient (which can be a challenge), and if you get no response for a day or two, re-post.

It happens to everyone. I have made threads that don’t have a single reply until a week later and then boom it’s blowing up. Until then it’s always like..
