my flock has been very strong since they started laying mid last summer. i have 7 birds, one barred rock, three arucanas, and three marans. i often used to get 7 eggs a day. now i'm down to one or two, not enough to feed even just me!
i've spread Diatomaceous earth on their food and on the ground surrounding the feeder, didnt see any change. i had thin eggs, solved that with oyster shells. i give them free roam time outside a few times a week and always fresh water / all they can eat feed all the time.
is this molt season? i'm ready to just get more chickens!!

It is a conspiracy by your chickens to drag you into the world of CHICKEN MATH! Just watch the swinging feeder.. your eyelids are getting heavy.. your getting sleepy.. YOU NEED MORE CHICKENS! Happens every time.

Seriously though, the days are getting shorter and they're probably just molting.

the weather here in MD has shifted, summer has broken and nights are in the 50s.
how many years do chickens lay at decent production? i dont expect an egg every day but more than one per day from all 7 would be nice!! last winter i averaged 3-4 per day and i ran a light on a timer to wake them up every morning. production now is worse than the dead of winter last season.
