Why do some people dub (trim the comb) their chicken’s combs? Also why do some people crop (trim a bird's wattles) their chicken’s wattles? Doesn’t it hurt the birds and bleed a lot? Thanks

yes I would imagine it bleeds and hurts a lot. people do it when they fight birds, mostly game cocks. the owners don't want those fleshy pieces on the face because it allows other rooster something to bite onto and tear when they are fighting. some people may do it for aesthetics but I think most people who do it are fighting their birds.

Yes AND... To show a Old English Game Bird (LF or Bantam) you have to have them dubbed or they are DQ'ed.
I think the same goes for Modern Games but can't really remember..
They also don't dub females.

One of my birds got her comb torn so I had to cut it off her comb bled big time. She's fine now I named her combless.

As an above poster said, it's also a requirement for showing several game breeds of birds.
