Why ducks eat eggshells?

She is a pekin (mix breed) duck and also i have one pekin drake. And yes cat , dog all foods are available.

ide get some cat food and see if she will eat it. Leave a bowl for her and see if she gets hungry and eats it

Ducks need good protein

Almost all the other vitamins can be sourced in a pharmacy. if you feed cat food and vegetables it would be alot better for them

If they dont get the needed protein and vitamins other issues will start. Like weak legs and brittle bones

She must need some extra calcium. Great info from @Dougdilman . My ducks get all their egg shells fed back to them they eat em up. I also sit out oyster shell for mine.

Seriously... just get more grains and thinking at 5 years that duck is doing just fine eating what your giving her.

Maybe she is lacking something. Ducks don't normally crash down walls for egg shells or lick walls.

I agree if you can’t get poultry specific feed then supplementing with cat or dog food ( dry) is a good way to give extra protein my birds love dry dog food Salmon an pea

I'm giving her tomatoes + cerelac +corns + rice. She mostly eat this. If i give her other than that she doesn't like .

Mix the dry cat or dog food a little at a time and see if she takes to it.
