Why hanging feeders?

They still beak it out, but still better than scratching it out by the foot full.

I didn't hang mine at first and they knocked it over several times a day and even pooped in it. After day two I hung them and most of the issues went away. I have one "ruler of the roost" and she like to show her authority. So even with them hanging, the fights end up spilling/sloshing the food/water around. I'm about ready to trade her off for another less dominate hen.

Thanks, great info. I think I am going to try and make feeders and waterers out of 5 gallon buckets, like the ones I found on your "how to" page. Seems like those would be cheap and easy to hang.

Glad i read this ,i have mine on the ground as was cleaning poop out of their feeders each day ,I will hang mine today.Ijust love this site!!!!
