Why has my ducks beak turned black?

This is my 1yr and a half old call duck Lola . Over the past week I have noticed her beak changing from yellow to black. I have noticed this happening on some of my other girls also

Does anyone know why .

I've noticed different times of year their bills change colours but it only happens with the girls not the boys

its a hormonal reaction as the year goes the duck gets a darker beak some say its because they are getting ready to mate or a just very fertile female.

I've only ever seen spits, never a big ol' stripe like that, so she must be hormonal as heck! Funny thing, Bean's snooter is already black and she's actually developing clear spots. Go figure.
