Why has my friendly hen started biting me?

Oh my gosh the red nails, lol. I bet they are after those like crazy!

Yeah, the hormones change close to POL, making them a little nutty, lol. They usually settle once they're laying regularly, though.
Thanks - Let's hope so! And final rookie mom tip? NEVER EVER wear flip flops into the pen - especially after a fresh pedi. Just sayin'...🐔

I'm very new to chickens as well. I've got 9 week olds, but I've only had them for just over a week. The chicks I raised are between 4 and 8 weeks old. And they're all my first flock. Some lessons have been learned the hard way. Like that small mole on my back that's been undisturbed since it showed up when I was 15? When wearing a tank top, they'll jump on my shoulder and think that it is treat. Ouch... The dermatologist says it's fine, no need to remove. Then I got chickens. 🤣

OWIE! Good thing it's okay. I had one on my back that was cancerous years ago and had surgery - was lucky. Oh the lessons we're learning, right? The best early chicken tip I read was spend lots of time in the pen quietly observing and listening to them. Talk to them, maybe sing too, but simply let them explore you and their new world to build trust. Chicken therapy! All the best...

I'm so glad you're alright! I do spend a lot of time in my run. I don't pick them up, rather I let them jump on me or walk over my legs. I'll sit right on the ground with them. They wouldn't want me to sing to them. 😆
