Why have a rooster? new Pg 10 video pg 13

OP: wonderful, touching story. Can't believe it but it actually made me tear up. Lol. What a brave boy you have. I now can't wait to move further into the country so we can have a rooster- and way more chickens.

Oh my gosh those are the two best stories in the world!!!! We have had TWO roosters die defending our flock, doing the exact same thing you described, doing their job and using themselves as a decoy! Both were SSH and very young! Not even a year old both times. We have little tributes to them in the kitchen of feathers we gathered from the ground and tied together. Aren't roosters the best ever? That's true sacrifice!

I have WAY too many roosters. Come get 'em. LOL.

Our main roo, Rico, whom I was having trouble with last week, is doing MUCH better after following gritsar's rooster behavior modification advice... THANK YOU, GRITTY! You saved Rico from becoming caldo de pollo.

I do not know what that is. The blue JG girl who promptly hatched only black chicks (my ability to disprove a Punnit square is amazing...) also only hatched pullets. The store eggs - 2 roos, every one else is a pullet. I am just not seeing any roos this year yet.

However, the evil psycho EEs are going to become enchiladas. Even if they are all pullets.

If you have another roo, just give your BR boy some girls of his own and a separated space from the other roo and his girls. If there is no roo present, when he reaches breeding age, stick him in with the girls. Good luck to you.

At this point he is the only roo that I know of, and as of right now the plan is to give him his own house and ladies. I have some really pretty BR girls that are almost all black and want to see what I will get!!

What will I get if I breed him with an EE?

You'll get barred Easter Eggers. If your Easter Eggers lay blue or green eggs, the daughters will most likely lay green. I have some Barred EEs myself, excellent layers, sweet girls. Riley is blue barred with beard and muffs and lays a bluish green egg. Panda is black barred and beardless and lays a light olive with tan speckles. They had the same mother, a blue Ameraucana, and their sires were BR brothers.
