Why have a rooster? new Pg 10 video pg 13

discoveregg there are some breeds that are more aggressive than others but honestly it is an individual thing...most roosters are not bad boys....if you raise them with affection and respect, allow them to be a rooster but you, yourself, be the head honcho....you should not have problems.

A good rooster trusts you...they learn that no matter how loud is women scream when their human picks them up...their human will not hurt his girls...he watches but does not interfere. It really boils down to their individual personality, how they are raised and the bond of trust you build. My boy as sweet sa he is does not LIKE me to pick him up but he will let me, he will remain calm and he will allow me to do whatever I need to do...trim nails or spurs, put medicine on his comb or whatever...that is all you can really ask of them is that they trust you, take good care of their girls and are capable of being handled when the need arises.

awww you are most welcome...I am glad Lancelot and I could help. Good luck with your little boy.

This is the rooster that started my love affair with the boys, as well as my love for the Blue Orps. This is Suede, he is owned by Speckledhen here on BYC. His eyes caught my attention...they are the kindest eyes I ever seen and there is a softness about them that melts my heart. And he is a darling boy in person too.

A moment of sheer joy for me...visiting Speckledhen in GA and getting to feed the Suede blueberry muffins I baked for him and getting to hold all 14 lbs of him in my lap...all the sweetness my boy Thor had came from his daddy what a sweet big ole boy he is....

So, I set out to get a son of his for my very own and I got eggs from Speckledhen and from them I hatched a little girl who is Blue and a little splash boy....my precious Thor. I lost him to the heat last summer. I cried for weeks and I still miss him terribly. Poor boy got the blade of his comb ripped off by two other roos when they were growing up...he got tagged teamed so his comb looks funny in my back. But gosh I loved that boy more than I can say.

I was also blessed with another son of his last year...he broke his neck in a freak accident. I was heartbroken.

Of course Lancelot is on the first page, but let me show you my other boys.

This is Lucky...he is a project d'uccle...he is in essence half mille fleur d'uccle and half lavender d'uccle, getting ready to crow sitting on my daughter's hand LOL

This is ZoomZoom, a Mille Fleur d'uccle, I believe he is split to lavender because he is throwing some porcelain babies

Yeah, that definitely wins my vote for "most awe-inspiring rooster plumage."

I'm now convinced a chicken can look like anything if you try hard enough to breed it.

The reason he is named Romeo is because he's such a Mamma's boy!! If it rains and he is out side he comes knocking on the door!

But he play fights the dog (the dog is playing) and I think it gives him a false sense of confidence. I eventually call off the dog - who never hurts the roo despite pinning him - and Romeo thinks that he wins! He chases the dog around the yard and then struts around crowing!

But, he is all cuddles with me!

LOL Ihavewhat I would love to see Romeo whopping up on that mean ole doggy.

I think its a riot! And the kids keep telling me I should post it on youtube, but I know if people saw the dog grabbing the roo by his throat and holding him down they would figure it was horrible.

They'd never wait to see the rooster hide behind the door and jump on the dog's back and then the dog do the play bow and them go after each other.

If the dog wanted the rooster dead, he would have been dead long ago. As soon as the roo gets pinned and stops fighting, the dog lets go. Dog backs off and Romeo attacks dog!

At the end of the day if it gets dark and I haven't come out he comes and knocks on the door for his Mommy cuddles before bed. yeah, mean ole rooster....
