Amen to that!
I was initially against getting our chickens we currently have 2 Ameracauna's, 3 Cochin (had four one killed by a raccoon), 4 Rhode Island Reds, 5 Barred Rock, 1 Polish, 1 d'ucle, and one unkown?? And our lovely Rooster Romeo that not sure what he is but he is a beauty.
I am so glad we have them now, along with our 16 year old beagle, 12 year old Lab and a lizard. I would have so many more animals if we could. But I enjoy my mornings with the chickens and our afternoons when we spend time with them when we can let them freerange.
p.s. my apologies for my misspellings....

Just got referred to your story from another thread-and what a story-I visualized the whole thing in my head-what a shot-what a rooster. When I looked at his pic I really saw Lancelot and his colors-he really does wear a black and silver coat of armor just like the knight he is! Wonderful story!!!

Waay back in June I posted a reply to this thread - remarking that maybe I should keep my 4 week old Cuckoo Marans roo. And I did. And my husband and I love him! Nubs is a gorgeous and gentle boy (6 months old now) and we get to watch an 'Animal Planet' episode every time we let him and his 9 girls out to free range in the afternoon. He has already protected them from hawks and eagles and diligently watches out for them while they are out free ranging, and he lets them know when he has found some sort of treat (good bye blue berries!). We are in a coyote area and the back part of our property is woods so I know that one day I'll have a fatality or 2, I just hope Nubs can keep the girls safe anyway. The only downside is - Nubs won't shut up! Loves the sound of his own voice!!

Cardine? Could it be that you have another rooster near by? At a neighbor's perhaps? There's another rooster, somewhere to the southwest of us, and my boys are constantly hollering back and forth to that fella. Only when the wind blows just right can I actually hear him. Proof that our boys can hear MUCH better than we can.

Just the other day we had a visit by the Cooper hawk. He seemed more to be just passing through at the time, though I'm sure he probably bookmarked our location in his little pea brain!

Long story short, Chief, Goobey and Milio all rounded up the girls, corralled them under the front porch and then stood guard [out in the open no less!

] and screamed challenges and obscenities at Mr. Cooper Hawk! Boy! Was that a treat to see: Three boys in full cooperation with each other to protect the ladies they love so dearly!

I'm pretty sure Mr. Cooper Hawk also noted what a formidable gauntlet he'd have to run in order to reach any of our birds!

Yes dear Lady Hawk! I do believe we're well overdue for a good Lancelot story! Indulge us please. I know you're busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, but, PWEEEEESEEE!?!?!?!?
