Why have a rooster? new Pg 10 video pg 13

Thank you all, I am very very proud of him. I am still uptight worrying about her babies and possiby other coyotes but I feel so much better now with her gone.

sweettxlilac : I am such a slacker...I swear I will get that fabric out to you soon...these girls need some saddles! LOL

Scratchnpeck: My rifle has been loaded and locked right by the front door since my Hera was killed...it will probably stay that way for awhile. Poor Speckledhen came to visit for that weekend and rather than going and seeing the sights we sat on my front porch swing watching the birds and chatting with the rifle sitting on a table in front of us. I was a horrid host I do believe. But she understood my chicken worry and was ever so gracious about it. Plus she liked Lancelot and she had to sit on the swing with my Delaware, Fattie, in her lap. hahahaha

Great job

I hope you were able to eliminate the coyote pups too!

It was actually a very pleasant day, not very hot, nice breeze, great company. Wasn't a very happy reason we were sitting there, but I had a great time anyway, watching the birds, being mauled by her big goober of a not-so-LGD, Casca, etc. Who knew I was in the presence of such a great hero, the awesomely studly Lancelot?

Your story about Lancelot is beautiful. I have a handsome partridge Silky rooster, Harry, who sends the girls inside whenever there is danger, ours is mostly from hawks, and he stands there brave and on the alert - even though he is a bantam and probably couldn't do much damage, I know he would protect his girls to the death. I think roosters are awesome.

When we first got chicks, we got 7 straight run and lost two. All five of the others were roosters. Two of them are just beyond cool. One is a blue easter egger and one is a barred rock. The blue easter egger is not particularly gregarious with humans, but is very protective of his 11 girls. We cannot keep him, but I am waiting until he crows. The other was just about the sweetest thing I have ever seen. I wish I could have kept him. I considered moving so we could. My husband said that was crazy. After getting to know the roosters, I like them as much as I like the hens. They are excellent animals. I went from not really caring that we could not have a rooster to really wishing that we could.

Lancelot is an amazing animal. He may have been doing what came naturally and instinctively, but it is still magnificent.

I still tear up every time I see the scene unfold in my head. It's really vivid since I know the exact layout of her property and gave met all her girls and that huggable rooster of hers, and can visualize it happening in great detail, especially the way she told it. Valiant rooster stories just really get to me anyway, but this is our Lancelot, so it's even more so.
