Why I LOVE My Vet

She is the only Vet for many many counties that will see a goat. I know how fortunate we are.

A good vet is hard to find. We too are lucky to have found one, except we do so much of our own vet work they hate emergency calls from us as it's never simple! I even do the episodomies. If I need something that is usually a perscription type thing it's no big deal. Call in they double check it with our vet and I can go get it. A GOOD VET is PRICELESS!

now see!..that there IS a good vet!..thats awesome!

It's so refreshing to see a positive thread about vets instead of all the negative ones! I'm graduating from vet school in May and plan on working on small ruminants (and chickens of course!).

Yeah, that's an awesome vet. A good one is worth their weight in gold and especially a large-animal vet. As I found when I got the horse & donkeys, they're hard to come by. Fortunately the only two in this area are pretty good.

Our small-animal vet is great too--I love him. He is a mobile vet--his whole practice is out of the back of his truck, which means I don't have to haul my critters as well as my two kids to an office. He's very down-to-earth and no-nonsense. We want to get good basic care for our critters, but don't have a lot of money to spend for things like massive trauma or cancer or kidney failure. (The biggest vet bill we've ever had was taking care of Baggin's heartworm.) He's fine with that--he'll give us all the info about the problem and what it will cost to take care of it, and doesn't pressure you one way or another (although I know he doesn't enjoy the calls to put an animal down.). I appreciate that, especially a lot of the city pet practices will make you feel like a monster if you don't want (or can't afford) to spend a mint on your pet.

Good luck with the baby having a baby!

That is an awesome vet. I hope you offer food and drink any time she comes out.

Are you set up with a place for her to do the c-section, I mean with supplies and things like a tarp and something for your girl to rest her head on? I say that because when I've had horses gelded they've used a drug that leaves their eyes open for some reason, so I always put a blanket under their head. Picked your spot to have it yet? Just in case?

That kind of planning saves me from last minute panicking, which I *will* do if I haven't planned lol.

My nigi is about 12 - 15 inches tall and weighs barely 30 lbs. She does the surgery on the tailgate of her truck where she has everything at hand.

I give eggs when she comes.
