I live in the desert Southwest, the only logs we have are shipped in for fire wood. No, I've just always had tree chickens, they love my big Mulberry tree that is over the run and coop area and shades my porch.

He was back this morning and bought two more chickens.

That's so funny!!

Are your chickens always safe at night in the trees? I have chickens who roost in the neighbors trees (but the neighbor doesn't care) and I have to poke them down with a broom every night, then they run into the coop while protesting. I'm afraid a skunk or possum or raccoon will get them in the trees. A few have hidden themselves in the dark and spent the night out quite a few times and they've been fine, but I'm not sure if that's just luck.

oh dear.....poor chihuahua! I'm a little worried about the gentleman's new tree hens, too!

Occasionally one of mine will roost in a tree instead of their house, but I don't like to leave them there. We have climbing predators (fisher cats, for one) that would love them chicken legs.

My DH (who was exasperated at the whole chicken thing at that moment) had to help me get one down this past winter, roosting up in a yellow birch which was on a hill. Imagine trying to prop up a ladder on a hill in 3 feet of snow (can't see the uneven parts of the ground)

in the middle of a storm, 10 or 15 degrees, me trying to poke it off the branch, it hops onto another higher on....we FINALLY got it down.
