Why is a broodiness a problem?

I sat down tonight and got out my calendar to calculate the ages of all of the new chicks. This explains even more why broodiness is a problem. These are the age groups of my chicks due to broody hens and of course silly me placing more eggs under them.

Group #1 - 2 pullets & 1 cockerel 19 weeks old
Group #2 - 4 pullets & 2 cockerels 17 wks old
Group #3 - 2 pullets & 1 cockerel 15 weeks old
Group #4 - 4 pullets 11 weeks old
Group #5 - 4 pullets & 2 cockerels 9 weeks old
Group #6 - 3 pullets 8 weeks old
Group #7 - 5 pullets & 2 cockerels 7 weeks old
Group #8 - 5 pullets & 1 cockerel (i think) 3 weeks old
Group #9 - 7 pullets almost 1 week old (too early to tell what they are)

I am insane. I hope that they are done for the year because I am so tired. Every time I say this is the last time but I continue to place more eggs under them. It's a sickness I guess.

It aint a problem if you've got a roo;)

But hen's don't lay when they are broody, and you want fresh eggs, right?

Today my ex-broody laid her first egg in.....I don't know, 6-7 weeks. I might get my first 3 egg day!

I agree. Dawn you and I are very much on the same page lately. They will brood on air.
By the same token, leaving a zillion eggs won't make a hen go broody unless her body is already considering it. Believe me, I've tried.

I think you have a FANTASTIC pullet to cockerel ratio. Is that all from one Roo?

Well thank you. I thought I had too many cockerels. The babies are compliments from 6 roosters who stay VERY busy. They keep up a lot of noise around here.
