Why is my 'bator DOING this?!?

I have an LG 9200 with 7 "mutt" eggs due to hatch on Father's Day (June 21st). I'm hatching using the egg carton method and tipping the 'bator from side to side 3x a day using a box top that's about 6" tall. When I tilt the 'bator one way, it will hold temps fine and no adjustments are needed (stays stable at 101.5). However, when I tip it the other way, it will spike up to 102-103 and I have to make adjustments and pull the vent plugs out for a bit to get it to cool off.

Has anyone else experienced this? What could be causing it? So far, I have 7 fertile eggs, and I would sure like to have 7 chicks on day 21!

The bator is not designed for that. Try turning them normally and see what happens.

Will it hurt to remove them from the carton and lay them horizontally on the wire now? They've been in the carton since Sunday...

I use the egg carton metod on the inside I cut the tops off the egg carton and put the eggs in like you would if you was going to put them in the fridge air sac up pointy end down. I then use somthing to tilt the eggs side to side 3 times daily. Works wonders you can even let them hatch in the egg cartons.

Before I had my cousin to build me a little special block i used lady shavers..LOL worked like a charm though..LOL

No it will not hurt the eggs to lay them down after they have been in the carton. Why not just lay them on their sides like the incubator is designed for. I have no idea who came up with tilting the bator but i don't think it should be done. I think sometimes people get way off the beaten path and for what? How do you keep water in the bator? As far as the carton goes i am not sure you would have enough room to tilt the caron properly without getting too close to the heating element and damaging the eggs or even catching the carton on fire.

Does the spike happen when the thermometer is raised side of the bator?

Not to fear it's not you. My LG does the same thing. And the thermometer is in the center of the unit. Though it does it any time I touch it, if I raise the lid to turn eggs I have to keep an eye on it and readjust. When I just tip it to either side, I have to keep an eye on it and readjust.

Doesn't matter whether it's tipped, or if I open the lid, anytime I touch the thing I have to watch the temps and readjust.
