Why is my chicken so ugly?

Quote:
That is good to know! I didn't now they molted at this age. I don't remember any of my others looking scraggly at this age, but my memory is something of a sieve, so who knows...

His head has been like that since he was only about a week old, though. Do you think they still might come back?

ETA: I originally posted this because I was wondering what you folks think his parentage might be. I totally forgot to include that in the original post.

Was he all the way to the bone - if so, then they might not. But it could surprise us

Sometimes the sheaf that covers the new feather is really tough - so it hangs on longer. Do you have an area that they can dust bathe? That helps break that dried sheaf from the mature feather.

The Almighty don't make no ugly chickens he just make some of them prettier then other'ns

I agree, he looks like he's filling back in from a molt.

And for the record, I don't think he's ugly. And sweet natured roosters aren't always easy to come by.

Aww, I think he's cute, in his own weird chicken-ish sort of way.

I'm going to go all nerd on this for a moment: he reminds me of Iroh (Zuko's uncle) from Avatar: the Last Airbender.
