Why is my dog so nasty?

I have no problem with outdoor dogs. Most working dogs are outside a majority of their day. That is not the same as leashing or confining a working dog, where they are not getting enough exercise to keep them mentally healthy.

Just because she has leashed it doesn't mean it won't be off leash when they are outside. It will have to be trained not to hurt the other animals. I wouldn't just turn it out either without working with it. Plus, keeping the dog indoors was potentionally more limiting on it's exercise. No one seems to have had a problem with that.

Thanks Farmer Kitty.

PS Thanks Newbie Coops. That seems like it just might work!

She is actually using a capful in a bottle of shampoo, not a tub of water. In either case household bleach is not the same chemical as the chlorine in your pool.

Our pets rely on us to keep them safe. Bathing them in even the smallest amount of a caustic chemical to make their coat whiter or smell better is selfish and irresponsible.

She may not have asked for a judgemental repsonse, but someone needs to speak up for the poor dog.

Pet owners should think about ALL the chemicals we use daily. Even if you are not putting bleach directly on your pet, but you use it to clean the floors the pets sleep on, play on and lick they are ingesting them daily. Even in the air they breathe, which is at a more concetrated dose than us big people get about 5' off the floor or more. Not just bleach, all the fancy cleaning products with shiny labels and the repuations to kill and disinfect.

The forum is an avenue to ask for advice and share with others. It is also our responsibility to educate others whenever the need arises. I don't think from the repsonses the OP gave when presented with the criticisim on using bleach, that she is a thin skinned member. If she never uses bleach to enhance her dogs color then great. But if she continues to do so, that is her decision to make.

I wish her dog well.

It is the same as in pools. I know some people that were told to put a gallon of bleach in their pool every once in awhile.
