I have a male call duck drake whose head looks like it is turning back to the female brown color. He is a butterscotch so it has been grey. Is this supposed to happen? He is a little over a year old now. He lost his two females to a hawk, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, or if he needs something else in his diet, or if it is normal. He seems a little quieter and less active, but I figure it is probably because he doesn't have girls anymore. I do have 4 other calls but they are just a few weeks and two months old so he is still ignoring them. Someone please fill me in why this might be happening?

He's molting into eclipse plumage - he'll do it every summer, he'll look like a girl for a few months and then he'll molt back into nuptial plumage. That explains why he's a little quiet and less active too - molting isn't fun, it takes a lot out of a duck. It's normal, I promise!

I am glad that it is normal. Should I be supplimenting his feed at all? Right now I am feeding him Mazuri floating maintenance twice a day. I had to move him in the chicken run to be safe from the hawks, so he isn't getting all the greens and bugs like when he free ranged.
