Why is my quail not laying eggs?

I've got 2 female quail in with one male. The male is a bit crazy, but I don't think he's over breeding with them. They are 6 weeks old and they don't get direct sunlight, but they get about 12-14 hours of light a day except for the middle of winter (now). They are Japanese Jumbo/Coturnix. When will they start laying? Google says now but they haven't laid anything. What can I do to encourage them to start laying?

Things that will keep your hens from laying:

Less than 14 hours of light per day
Too many males (1 per 2 might be too many)
Predators hanging around
Moving them to a new location
Adding or removing birds

Pretty much anything that might stress them out will cause them to stop (or not start) laying.

This is not true.....or most birds in most places for most the year would not ever lay.
At least for chickens, I would day the same is probably true for quail too.
There are exceptions, but in order for quail to lay regularly, they need the 14+ hours of light. I had one girl who lay all winter last year, but 14+ hours of light is a good general rule.

Oh ok. I've been moving them to sunlight occasionally on sunny days 😅
I've been doing it to give them more sunlight because of the first reason you mentioned, but it might've been stressing them out. I'll stop that.
I have to add more females to the flock in a few months.
In terms of predators, that would be my younger siblings and cousins. My 2 year old cousin thinks she's a Disney princess that can talk to animals and kept opening the cage and trying to pick them up 😬 I've got a child lock on it now.

Six weeks is on the early side. Once in a while it happens. The longest I've gone is about 15 weeks before laying.
