I have a young Amaracauna roo about 16-18 weeks old, lately he's been attacking the feathers on his own feet. I have checked him over there are no mites or fleas or cockleburs which unfortunately we have to contend with. He's causing himself to bleed not to.mention driving his self crazy is there anything I can do to stop him from harming himself?

Are you saying he has feathers growing on his feet and legs? Definitely not an Ameraucana if he does. Sometimes new feet feathers growing in can be uncomfortable, as well as feathers can break or crack. I would check over each feather and see if any are poking him or new ones are coming in though it sounds like you have checked him over. Are the leg scales raised. Pictures may help.

I too have feather footed EEs and have seen this. I myself think it is because most of other birds in the flock do not have them, and he dont want to be different. He may think that the girls will not like him because of his feathered feet, but I never found why he did this for certain, just a guess.

I will get a picture and post it I noticed that several of the feathers are broken off which it appears that he did that to himself
