Why is one duckling a different color?

Talk about coincidences, I actually SAW a black mallard on my daily walk today! It had a white bib, though. Also, I have no idea if it was wild-born or a domestic that flew the coop. But isn't it funny how the very first black mallard I've ever seen in my life happens to fall on the same day this thread is made?

Better picture of the all black duckling. He looks just like the other mallards.... but black!!

Somebody call an ambulance. My head just asploded. (warning: incoming cute overload meltdown)

asjda;jd;lajdl;ajd;ljs IT'S TOO CUTE!!! And soooooo special! AAAAAH I can't take it, the very first totally, completely, not-at-all-patterned black mallard! I still can't believe it came from two normal parents. I can't wait to see what the lil' fuzzbutt looks like when it grows up!
