Why is there black coloring on my Buff Orpingtons feather?!

My Buff Orpingtons are beginning to have black penciling on their feathers. Why is this?
They are 14 weeks old.

Those are juvenile feathers that will molt off as they get older. You'll have to judge there feather pattern and quality when there 1 year old.

During the 1 year growth period they will molt 3 times keep that in mind. So you'll see a bunch of feathers on the ground that's what that is.
