I have gone to the hen house the past two days and found 2 eggs each day that had blood on them. There was no blood on the back of any of the chickens. The eggs were on the larger side. The last time I had an egg with blood on it a couple days in a row I ended up with a prolapsed chicken...what a mess. This has happened before and then stopped. What is this? Why is this? Should I be worried? Is there anything to do? Do we not know what this is? There is quite a bit of blood, but not clots.

Every once in a while I find blood streaks on a few of my eggs. Doesn't seem to hurt anything and I've never had a prolapsed hen. Isn't much you can do about it anyway.

I usually only find blood streaks on eggs of first time layers or those just coming out of a long molt.

Wash and refrigerate, you are good to go!
