Why is this?

Most of my girls like being held, some don't. I have noticed when they lay their first egg they become A TON easier to catch. Why is that? lol

They are easier to catch because hormonally their instinct is to squat for breeding when a rooster tries to mount them. They only squat when they are cycling to lay eggs.

Besides the above, they do get more calm after they start laying. And some chickens are just friendlier than others.
