Why isn’t my Tom Gobbling? I’m very confused

Oh wow that is a big snood for a hen. I trust you that you may be right and that he’s a hen but I really don’t want it to be true because I’ve been wanting a Tom for a long time and I really thought this was it. I hope he’s just a late bloomer . But thanks for the help.

If it is several months younger than 6 months, it is possible to be a late bloomer. Watch for the cone formation in a retracted snood for an indication of a tom. By six months a tom will be bald other than a few hairs and will not have that mohawk.

Ok I’ll keep an eye on him. After looking at him several times I believe you may be right but the only thing that confuses me is that he’s the only one who walks around fanning his feathers. Once again thanks for your the help.

When all you have is hens, it is not surprising for at least one that takes to strutting. Give it a couple of months to make sure of the sex. Sexing a turkey from pictures is not the same as paying close attention while observing all the behaviors. Look down at the top of the head and compare it to the top of a known hen's head. A tom's head will be wider at the back of the head while a hen's head will look like it would easily fit between parallel lines.

Yes the back of his head does look the same as the other hens but I’ll still keep watching just to make sure.
