I have a Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin pin that has 4 hens and one cock. I bought them as adults from a friend. A couple of the hens went broody and did hatch some chicks this year before I bought them. She currently still has one of the broody moms raising her chicks.
I gathered 5 eggs to check fertility. Day 8, no development. I started to watch the cock with their girls. He is attentive, calls them, protects them (when I have a pin free ranging and the other cock comes over to dance for his ladies), but has not once mounted any of the 4 hens in his pin!
I removed him from the coop 2 days ago. He is alone by himself on the other side of the chicken yard. I'm hoping having him alone and then putting him back in will trigger his instincts.
Any ideas?
I really dont want to have to find another cock for the girls, he is a really nice cock and I need him for my breeder. I beleive his is about 6ish years old.
