Why meat birds?

I love the idea of ducks! Unfortunately it is so dry and hot here in the summer, I think keeping them with enough water would be a challenge. Finding a way to keep them is still somewhere on my long-term wish list.
If people in Phoenix, AZ can keep them, so can you! They do not need that much water, they just like it. I raised them in Riverside, CA and they were fine. Little harder to dress than Cornish-X, is all. Very tasty! And they grow fast.

Up here we have VINS that will take extra roosters and humanely euthanize them and feed them to their raptors. A lot of people do that because let's face it processing isn't for everyone and some people just want to rehome and not worry about extra roosters. I feed RAW to my dogs and so the extra roosters are eaten either by myself or the dogs as are extra turkeys, ducks etc.

Dog food has come from very shady sources and still does. There is no regulation saying the meat they use needs to be safe or ethical so they can take animals that are euthanized or other pets even that are destroyed at the humane societies. The only regulation is that they need to meat nutritional requirement but it's easy to do that even with non food sources. Quite scary as far as I'm concerned.
I only buy dog food that uses only human grade ingredients. More expensive but well worth it to me.

Don't know where you folks are from. because I know that pet food in the USA is made ABOVE human food standards. Had an acquaintance tell me he went thru a facility in out region that made stuff that went into pet food and the facilities manager who helped set the factory up told him that he wished he knew then what he knows now and they would have set it up for human grade products because there is such a difference in standards and the human stuff is so much lower...

I see many dog food kibbles contain meat by products meal or chicken by products meal. Sorry but that is not my idea of edible.

I never said edible did I? to eat the male parts from cows or pigs, snake meat, brains from pork or beef. are not foods I think are edible but what WE think and what IS are 2 different things, Also as I pointed out HUMAN and PET grade are different things and unfortunately PET in the USA is HIGHER. Also I think jello is inedible, but many people live the junk, Asparagus, Brussal sprouts brawnswager (however it's spelled) all tastes like something that ought to be flushed IMHO. But they are considered by the government and many people addible and are inspected and pass the bar for human grade food..

Granted, this was some decades ago. But when I was in college, we had someone give a lecture, who was a higher up at a major pet food company. He said that research showed that some 25% of pet food was actually consumed by humans, so they needed to make sure the pet food was human grade. He claimed that one of their enforcement mechanisms for that was to have "surprise" buffets where workers and management at all levels of the company and product preparation, were required to eat some of the product.
