So, lately it seems that almost everytime I leave the house some needy animal finds me. This month alone, the 9 factory farmed chickens! We today I was out in Alma at this store that sells "damaged" goods, like squished boxes of pasta and such. Truth be told I was buying cheap stuff I could cook for the chickens on my day off since its cold And as I am in line, what do I see...a wee bitty bunny. Sign says "RABBIT $5" Not only do I think this is odd bc its a grocery store but its January and most breeders don't breed this time of year. I go over and look at it, its cute like all bunnies but I go back to my cart to check out. I asked the cashier about it and she didn't seem to know much but I started talking about Lucy and Peppermint and the rabbit rescue group I am in and she thought it was just so cool that there is a rabbit rescue and I have mine spayed. I pay and get ready to leave and as I am aobut to go out the door she closes her line and comes over to me and tells me in a hushed tone "I don't think that rabbit is doing very good" I told her I could take a look at it if she liked so I went over and got it out of its cage. When I was taking it out I saw that its eye was completely matted over and oozing, this was the side I couldn't see earlier. After taking a closer look I was pretty sure it was born without an eye. I told her that it really needed to see a vet and she asked me if I knew one that would see it. After telling her that I had a great vet she asked if I would take it because she didn't want it to die. She put it in a box and smuggled it out to my cart. Soooo I took the fella (which I am hoping it is!) to the vet and sure enough, no eye. He is on Albon for the infection. My vet only charged me for the meds too, he rocks. I will post some pictures up tonight. He looks to be about 6 wks old. He is chowing down on cilantro (they only had purple cabbage in with him, no water or pellets) and he has hay and orchard grass pellets to try too.
