why no eggs?(update and contest)

i go around and open all my coops (6) in the morning,, keep all doors open,, then some hang out there in and out most the day,, and my layers go in, have their egg, come out and tell the roo, who in turn tells me,, haha. then at night i go round and close all the doors up,, and they are all usually in waiting,, but if not,, they run in when they see me coming.hehe

My girls stay in the the coop most of the time and lay in their boxes anywhere from as early as 6:30AM to as late as 7:00PM. They like to keep me guessing

They love dry oatmeal, apples and broccoli....they are SPOILED!

I have noticed several times that anything that changes , excites or upsets the hens in any kind of way , BINGO , no eggs that day. When I clean out the coop or rearrange the nesting boxes or put more pine shavings in nest and coop area , its LIKE ALL WEIRD to them . So , they have to re-adjust . So , I let them do as they choose to do . Pop door is always open to their choice to enter or exist . I DO NOT put them in the coop , NOR let them out . The rooster is in charge of that flock .

So , routine is very important to healthy egg production .

I go out back early morning , I sit and drink my coffee while they eat and play . then I check on them and pick eggs around noon and refill water containers if low . then I don't go back until late afternoon . I refill water and food and collect eggs again .

, i got a few BIG boys that dont like people, animals,,,and i figure when i need them all to do something,, they (even the roo) needs to obey ( kinda wrong word, but fits) me.,, i got a sound i make if i see danger,, i make that sound and my roo hears it,,he lets them all know, and boy do they all disappear fast,,hehe,,,and if im a little late,, he'll take them all in,, but i usually try to make sure i go out and tell them all its time,,,,its another way of "checking the condition" of all my birds and to spot any problems before they get too big.plus i have peafowl, pheasants, "for sale" chicken yard, MY chickens,a few seperated roo's,, and WAY to much stuff to do,,, but as you all have said,,, ROUTINE ,, it isnt any work for me to walk out,, say "lets go girls,,,bed",, and stand by the door and wait for a minute to shut it,,haha,, kinda like "roll call"
i HAVE to though,, i have a 4ft. fence that keeps them in,, and bad things out,,hehe,,

i wish i had a set-up that i didnt have to do that EVERY night,,haha.

A new color egg in the box today. Much lighter, kinda cream color. I wonder who it was...

I usually go out at dusk and close everyone up.
i have two roos that are the "Main Men" for the hens. The other roos would beat up on them terribly, so they hang with the girls. The turkin roos have their own location inside the coop, and the rest of the 9 roos are in another section with the door to the fenced yard. I have a system: Girls and escorts first- they usually do it themselves. Then the roo's in the pen, then the turkins. This will change later this Fall, when my freezer gets stocked with chicken. HEHEHE. Then the girls will be left with one or two of their male escorts.

The two roos with the girls and the turkins are collectively called the "nerd herd", cuz the other roos beat them up and chased them out of the coop. The white leghorn and one or two of the turkins refuse to go in to the male side of the coop.

Such politics..
