why no eggs?(update and contest)

When I switched from crumbles to pellets the girls stopped laying for 13 days. Chickens do NOT like change, any little thing will set them off. I have had them stop over a change in food, a change from shavings to straw in the nest box, and addition of more hens, and even missing a day in letting them out to play. I think it is their way of throwing a temper tantrum.

As for the molting wait a week or two after they finish and I am sure one of those little eggs will appear.

I am also hoping that the rest of my birds will start laying. I have five that are older than 25 weeks and are not ready to lay. I have 9 approaching 20 weeks that I would really like to see some eggs from. Maybe we could have your girls race my girls and see who will lay first. LOL

Well, I will continue to be patient. I asked my son to pick up the dropped apples in the yard to keep the girls from eating them. I read that hens should not have fruit,it will stop them laying. I gave them some yogurt in the coop today. Maybe they will like that. Still no eggs today. That makes 4 days. I have been waiting till late in the Am or even afternoon to let them out, so I don't think the eggs are in the bushes. I suppose nothing is impossible tho. I have done alittle bushwacking to look for hidden nests-none yet.

One of my chickens doesn't lay until after 1 pm. They definitely don't lay before 10 am. I usually let them out of the coop at 7:30 am and there are never any eggs.

Well, I went out to the coop about 130 today, and there were TWO eggs in the nestbox. I had already let them
out for the day..so that was good to find them inside.
Maybe they liked the yogurt.

One egg looked like it had a rough landing, so I added more straw to the boxes. I had meant to do that anyway. I think one layer might have been the Maron that goes in by herself and squawks a lot, but this time she had reason. Now if the others would just start I would be thrilled.

I read so many conflicting opinions on fruit/table scraps vs no. I know they like our compost heap, they cultivate that very nicely. I guess I won't sweat it... but I don't think I will push it either. If they find drop apples, I won't freak.

Thanks for the insight everyone!

I have a question ? Why do you say you let them out for the day? If they have a coop and a run attached and safe against predators , WHY NOT let them go in and out as they choose . Mine have 24/7 full access . the enter the coop when they ready to lay and exist back into the run area . they eter again only to roost and sleep in late evenings .
crack of dawn , here they come from the coop .
