I have 2 new Bantams that I got from a guy down the street. They are new egg-layers. Each layed an egg their first day here. It's been more than a week and neither has layed a second egg......I know they didn't like the change in food, but they "seem" to be a bit better about it now. He was giving them cracked corn. Here they get layer pellets, grass, weeds, meal worms, etc...

Is this normal?

The move sometimes affects some chickens more than it does others, mine for example took them 8 days to lay a single egg since i bought them, just give them time for them to get used to their new enviroment!

As already pointed out, the move could have affected them.

Chickens are creatures of habit and once their routine is thrown off (the move and the food in your case), it takes them a bit to get used to a new routine. They will, but you have to give them a little time, so no worries! This is completely normal!

What breed are they? While it's assumed chickens lay an egg every 27 hours or so that is not the case per breed. Some breeds lay more than others. For example while RIR's lay very well they would not lay as well as a Golden Comet. Some examples of per annum laying are.
According to a british site.

I suppose all of these numbers are variable to conditions and feed, but you get the idea.

I have Dels who took the move fine and never skipped a beat. I have marans who are off w/ a simple move to another part of the same coop and new group of hens. Which by the way they could see everyday.

All the best

Thanks! These are bantams, one is an EE and one is all black with a green sheen to her feathers. I have 2 eggs now from the black one. None for almost 2 weeks from the EE

When I bought my layers the lady said they were laying every day. It took 2 weeks for them to start laying again after the move to their new home. They are 2 barred rocks and a Rhode Island red. I get varying amounts of eggs depending on the weather and their mood. 0-3 per day. Good luck!

I have an Easter Egger who stopped laying. At least, I stopped finding her eggs. What I think is happening is that she is flying or otherwise escaping from the coop, hiding her eggs in the garden, then going back in.

It sounds crazy, but last year I had a hen that did that exact thing! We would let her back in the coop several times, wondering why she'd gotten out, but didn't think anything of it. Then, when I took out the peas in my garden, we found a cache of a dozen green eggs--all from her! Unfortunately she later died, and I think she got injured while flying out of the coop (the walls are 5+' high)

I think the Easter Eggers are smarter than the other breeds. They seem to be better at getting out. Hard to think I've been outsmarted by a chicken, but I haven't seen her get out, haven't found her eggs, and haven't seen her get back in. Still, since it happened last year with another Easter Egger, I suspect it's happening again. She is too fat, happy, and healthy to not be laying eggs, and she has always been a good layer before. It's been a month since I saw a green egg.
