Why r my chicks dyeing

Um...... I'm lost now. Does he/she have a little stuffed animal, a feather duster, or a mirror to be a friend? They are pretty social and need a friend or two. Can u post some pics?

At 5 weeks, you would not want a warmer temp. If you were changing bedding only once a week, were they able to stay clean and did you have good ventilation? Gases can build up and kill. I think they need at least 1.5 sq. ft. per chick at that age, so if you had 10 chicks you would need like a 3x5 ft. cage, and add fresh bedding between changes to absorb waste and provide clean surface. Just passing along what I think I have read. Hope the one left makes it. Haven't heard of pasty butt when they are that old.

On another thread is this link to early causes of chick death that might give you some ideas: http://www.worldvet.org/displayarticle1207.html

I was told to put something large and shiny in their water until they got really used to using it, colored marbles, nickles, etc. Just make sure it's clean. That did the trick. They came over and saw shiny and dug in.

at 5 weeks 80-90 seems awfully warm. If you start at 95 and go down 5 a week they'd be at 75 in the warmest area and need cooler areas to escape.
