Why scramble them?

OK. If you're sure you want me to. You're weird.

I would think you should cook them to prevent spreading illness through a flock. You may not always detect a sick bird right away and would risk infecting others through raw eggs. Cooking would kill bacteria or viruses.

I think that chickens are smarter than some of you think.
I would never risk it..

Most of the time, my wife hard boils the eggs and then gives them to the birds. The only time she scrambles them is if the egg shell is already cracked.

Why? Two reasons:

1, We don't want to give anybody the idea that egg eating is an acceptable behavior. Maybe they won't ever make that cognitive connection, but we figure we won't even give them the chance to.

and

2, If there is any disease in the egg, cooking will probably kill off the disease pathogens. Last thing we want to do is pass disease pathogens from one bird to another.

Now, why does my wife boil the eggs instead of scramble them?

Personal preference, that's all. No other reason.

I'm with Woodmort on the whole scrambled egg thing. I don't see the point. When I did have older surplus eggs that I fed back to the chickens, I used a bucket with a scoopfull of scratch in it and crushed the eggs into the scratch and mixed until it was a icky mess,-----the chickens loved it!

You would be a rare exception to the rule then. I personally would not risk it.

You're right of course. Making that connection requires a level of cognition that chickens aren't capeable of.

You're probably both right, but I'm just not confident that it's not a possibility. Also, when I feed eggs it's usually a dozen or so that have been in the fridge for a few weeks, so I want them in a form they'll consume completely, without missing any.
