Why show your bird(s)?

for the love of competition, for recognition, for marketing purposes, to find out how your birds stack up against other folks birds, or just for fun...???

Reasons:

1. It's fun!
2. Competition gives me an adrenaline rush.
3. You can hang with other people and learn so many things.
4. You can teach others about the breeds that you are showing.

And...my most favorite reason:

5. You are FINALLY amongst other crazies that understand your passion.

i was always eneterested in chickens from child hood my grand father worked at hatchery and was farmer always had laying and meat birds when i found out i could show pure breed chickens it was like dream come true, then found out i could cotain info about poultry better tthen most. it was one time i was better at any thing growing up

In small time fairs, I like it because I can educate people about breeds they don't know of, or about heritage vs hatchery, or about my own breeding.

In larger shows, I would enjoy it for the sights of others' birds and breeds, for the competition, for meeting other passionate breeders, and to get a good comparing note on my birds vs others, or other breeds and how well or poorly they tend to do in a particular region.

When I was younger a very gifted dog breeder told me that showing was the place to compare your animals to those of fellow breeders . This is the place where you can see the efforts of many other breeders. I think that may have been the original intention with a bit of" My animal is better than yours ". As well showing can be fun, especially when you win. Bill
