Hens control the gender. There is no "male sperm" in chickens.

Shifty Joe,that is their fate.I just wish there were more females.In my area,laying hens go for 12-15 bucks each.You can't give roosters away.

nope- the sex chromosome does it, reverse of mammals where the male controls gender because he has 2 different sex chromosomes in chickens the female has the two different chromosomes so she controlls the gender, when the egg is produced it is set one gender or the other - if it get fertilized it ~can~ hatch.
