Why the red comb? and not the dark mulberry comb?

My silkie roo is purebred right? He was sold to me as a purebred silkie. He has the black skin and the five toes but he has a red comb? Could he be mixed or somthing eles and if somthing eles what would have caused him to have the red comb? I have chicks from this roo and all the chicks that have turned out to be roos have the dark mulberry comb.

Here is a picture of him oh and what type of comb does he have?

Also is it possible if I bred him that sooner or later a roo chick may turn up with the red comb as well?

He is purebred. You'll usually see the red comb in hatchery or other pq silkies. It can be bred out, but if you're serious about breeding, find another roo

It's not unusual to see a bright red comb in purebred white silkies, but like LilPeeps said, you probably don't want to use him to breed SQ. The reason this happens is because it's hard to get pure black coloring and mulberry on white. Something about the white genes involved prevents the feet from being as dark as they could and occasionally allows the combs to show up as red. I have a white girl that has a mulberry comb, but her feet are more of a slatey charcoal than black. I think (correct me anyone if I'm wrong) that the Standard of Perfection even allows the feet of white silkies to be a bit lighter than other colors.

Well his legs are very dark in color almost like a coal black very dark skin. Does he have the rose comb?
