Why do people put sugar in the new baby chicks water??? and how much sugar do i put in there wateres ??

I do it helps them get off to a good start. Put a half cup sugar for every gallon of water. GOOD LUCK!

I use one cup of plain white sugar well dissolved in a gallon of water for the first four or five hours then plain water or with a vitamin/electolyte mix after that.

It helps to combat shipping stress if the birds have been mail-ordered. Not always necessary, but you never know if they've had a rough ride or not.

Just use it for a day or two. Just like kids, using it continually may make chicks hyperactive. That sometimes results in pecking problems. Have fun and good luck!

I used fresh clean water, no sugar or anything else added. I can see where sugar water might help a chick weakened by the stress of shipping, but for healthy, active chicks nothing but fresh water is needed, IMO.
