And so there's another (and one of the more important) lesson in chickenkeeping for ya: Do Not Believe Everything THe Feedstore Guy Says, He Most Likely Does Not Know What He Is Talking About. Just nod politely and do your own thing
It is only that funny because it is that true! One of the feed stores I go to is really good. The employees have mostly been there for years and know their stuff. The other store is closer, but they tend to be clueless.
I agree with you all. But I just wanted to make certain. He's young and has 5 hens himself and tossed he's eggs for two weeks. I think it's some old wives tale he believes in. I told him I've never heard of that before. And I mentioned that I do a lot of research on line. ( BYC ) He said "Oh yes! Its a well known fact. But I politely smiled and thanked him.
Thank you all for reinforcing my belief that it was OK to eat them.

I wonder if advice to wait 2-weeks (leave in fridge) before trying to hardboil fresh eggs got turned around into throw them out for 2-weeks? It just seems like such an odd thing to believe.
I boil fresh then put in an ice-water bath and it works fine, but I know a lot of people just let the eggs age a bit.
He might have been taught to tell customers that because many people don't realize that it's time to switch from starter feed to layer feed until they see their first egg. If you have been feeding medicated starter (not YOU, just in general) when that first egg is laid, then you should wait. My dad always said it was better to err on the side of caution than end up being sued!
The lady that cleans my house raised chickens for years and learned everything she knew from her mother who is now80 plus years old and she was horrified that I ate the pullet eggs. She said her mother was very clear that they were not edible. I ate them and of course there was no issue they were just smaller and often dirtier becasue they layed everywhere for a while until they figured out where the right place was.
I just cant imagine why one wouldnt eat them. I am sure there is more chance of them being irregular
