Why was there a tomato in the nest box?

maybe she wants to go broody....any object, even smooth round rocks the right size, our favorite golfballs etc can be substitute eggs.....
on the other hand....I think it would be way funny if she is just a little jokster with odd quirks.....

I tossed some grape tomatoes to feed one of my hens who was sitting on a nest and later in the day when I went to pick up her egg---she had moved the tomatoes inside her nest to sit on. I've also seen some acorns lately in nests of my free-ranging birds.

Talk about hens too LAZY to lay their own eggs to incubate!

Maybe they think they're squirrels and are trying to store food for the winter...

That is way funny. Almost as funny as the BYC'er that had a hen go broody on a pecan nut.
