Why we should NOT SSS!!! UPDATE!!!!!! She's HOME!

Absolutely call the local shelters and any animal hospitals nearby. I once lost my dog in the city - New Orleans - for a week, after he escaped from our fenced yard!! I placed ads, called the shelters daily, searched myself with my family. Found him because I called every animal hospital in the yellow pages and one of the staff at one animal hospital several miles and several busy streets away had seen a dog running loose that fit his description. Went and cruised the neighborhood where she had seen the dog, calling for mine and he appeared!! Unbelievable what traffic he must have crossed and survived - but I did get him back!

Don't give up - I've been through this with horses and dogs and have always found them safe and sound.

Don't think the worst - most people won't shoot a dog. And I agree with you that no one should SSS.

Good luck - hope you find her soon.

sorry honey - call all the vet offices in your area.

another thing you can do - especially if you are in a rural area - wait for your mailman and ask him/her to keep a lookout for the dog...they drive around all day.

let us know what happens.

I'm sorry about your dog

I hope you find her.

I would like to second the advice to check surrounding counties as well. We recently found a dog and were able to trace him through his rabies tag to a town almost 2 hours away! His owners could not believe he had been found, said he was missing over a month. The guy was already in his vehicle when I called and started directly my way when I got ahold of them. They like right behind a campground and figure he must have hitched a ride and then gotten away from whomever picked him up.

There is hope. Search far and wide. Watch Craigslist and other sources for found dog ads.

I really, really hope you find her.

Thanks everyone. I'm very rural where I am. There's only one shelter and hubby went there today. They're closed Sunday & Monday and I'll be back there Tuesday. There's no animal control out where we are but there is in the nearest city. Hubby called and talked to the ACO today and there's been no Border Collie's turned in.

We're in the mountains where there is thousands upon thousands of acres of woods. We've hit every single house around. There are only 2 roads near us and one is ours. Both roads are about 3 to 6 miles long.

It's the not knowing that's killing me. We had thunderstorms roll through today. She's terrified of thunderstorms. She'd climb up onto my lap and whine. So tomorrow morning I'll be right back out there looking for her.

I'm not giving up on her. I rescued her from a pound in Ohio where they use a heart stick method to put the animals down. I drove from Albany, NY to the Mahoning Pound in Ohio to save this little girl from being put down 2 1/2 years ago. I'm not giving up now.

Have you posted any lost posters of her? A friend of mine in Florida had her dog disappear for 4 or 5 days. She found him eventually, over 5 miles away!! She could have just wandered off?
