Why were these chickens housed this way?

Exactly. I saw some on lucius rd a while back too. They are not uncommon in this area. Someone gave my one as my first chicken, along with two game hens. I like him, but he is small as are the hens and eggs, so I am moving away from them.

Were we lived there were some down the road. He did it because he showed roosters and used tethers. They had 55 gal rain barrels upside down, a roost in it and a hole in the side. It was sad, but cheap
