Why won't my girls lay???

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the answer is a resounding yes. There about a dozen native to that part of the US. Some more so in timber country though. The ones I know of are:

Garter snake
Ribbon snake
Eastern Brown snake
Northern red-bellied snake
Ringneck snake
Smooth green snake
Milk snake
Eastern hognose snake
Northern black racer
Northern water snake
Timber rattlesnake

Out of those, it will only be the larger ones that take eggs. hognose, timber, and eastern brown. Out of those it would most likely be a brown (the other two would probably be trying to kill chickens)

But I have good news

Its really cold for snakes right now and if the eggs are in fact being stolen then it is probably a family of raccoons. They are the only ones smart enough to steal them, stash them, and go back for more all in the same night. All the others would eat one or two and not come back until the next day.

I am in Southern Nh! Deerfield to be exact! I researched area snkes when we bought the house in September and most of the snakes on that list are no around here i'm told! Definitely not the poisonous ones! Raccoons maybe but I don't see how they could get in my barn! It's pretty secue in there! Don't chickens usually lay during the day though???
