I am having the same issues with my 3 mallards. No matter where I put their duck house, they want nothing to do with it as far as sleeping in it. I put their food bowl in there, and put the water bowl on the outside. My ducks were happy going in and out of the house to get their food, but they do not want to stay in there.

My husband seems to think that the mallards would love to stay in the pond all winter...I think they should be locked in the duck house all night. Give them a place to actually dry out.

Their duck house is where the swing is at on the upper deck. They have access to all of the pond area and also the covered deck.

I live in Pennsylvania, where the winters get pretty cold. How cold is too cold for ducks? Am I over pertected, or do ducks really need to be locked up?

Ducks come with a nice layer of fat and their own down coats.

Mine will actually sleep in their dog igloo, but only in bad weather. If it is nice they just sleep where ever.
