I dont agree that they quit after 5 weeks. I have had a hen sit on the nest for like 2 MONTHS before. It depends on the chicken.

That was my thought too.....just let her go and see what happens, the little stinker.

And I also agree with hens being broody for longer than 5 weeks. I have a friend that has 2 hens that tag team. One sets on the eggs and hatches them and than another takes over while the first hen sets on MORE eggs. She's been broody for months now. Funniest thing you've ever seen.

Chickens are enough to drive you insane

Definately give them a shot. Chickens, sometimes, they are smarter than us Humans. I know yesterday when I was in the barn feeding. My Cleo (Blue Silkie) got off of our eggs to eat. Then she got back on. I was worred because her eggs were not all under her. I was freaking out. It was 18 here yesterday. I went on feeding everyone, horse, goats, blah blah blah. Before I left the barn, she had everthing back in order.

Sorry for the ramble. Give them a shot. See what happens.

It happens. I've had hens sit and sit and sit... and then sit their chicks to death and keep on sitting... not all hens are meant to be moms. Although, 5 weeks is probably when her bio clock said time's up. Some give up at 2 weeks.
