Why wouldn't I use Meat Bird feed?

So, I'm almost out of medicated chick starter, and the only nonmedicated stuff I can find was in 25 lb bags. Except there are several types of gamebird turkey and meatbird feeds without medication. Is there any danger in using the full leaded stuff? Obviously, it's more expensive, but I got lucky and my cashier ran up the 28% protein stuff as a cheaper feed. I'm also hoping it will help out my little bitty Jersey Giants. I haven't fed it yet, but in a day or two I probably will unless you guys talk some sense into me.

I use gamebird and sometimes turkey feed but don't go over 20-22% or so. The 28% might be a bit high for them, you want enough protein to support good growth, but not so much that you're forcing growth they're not ready for.

I guess I forgot to mention, I'm already leaving them outside in the yard all day to let them free range(5 and 6 weeks old). At this point, the feed would essentially be supplement as they wouldn't be able to fill up on it with all the other stuff they find.

Based on this, i would go for it!

I feed game bird crumbles to mine right now. Although, if you want it to be unmedicated, check for antibiotics, i found out i was feeding bacitracin to mine because i didn't read the label well enough.

I do the same as you - feed as a supplement to their free ranging.
