Why you should always test you hygrometers before you start incubating

My digital station is 2 parts, one is supposed to go outdoors and the other indoors and are wireless and probeless. I put the smaller outdoor unit in a bag with the salt/water yesterday and have waited almost 18 hours to be sure and it never registered higher than 69% humidity.
Now I discover that BOTH parts have a hygrometer function so I need to test the large unit also. So, I'll be getting a much larger zip bag to do this calibration and I think I'll put the small unit back in to see if the bag size makes any difference or if they will both read the same.
I want to be positive of my results before I depend on either of these things to help me hatch my babies.

My hygrometer actually measured 75%, but it was in one incubator while I used a probe in the other incubator. When I got done testing the hygrometer, I stuck it in the bator with the probe and the hygrometer read 80% while the probe still read 53%. I have no way of testing the probe because I wouldn't be able to seal the ziploc bag around it.

The probe only measure temps not humidity. I bought two more hygrometers/thermometer. Hopefully I will get one that is a little more correct.

Maybe I'm calling it the wrong thing....it's a thermometer/hygrometer combo. The main unit stays outside the incubator, and what I call the probe, goes inside. The reading shows both temperature and humidity.

I so wish I'd know this B4 I set my eggs. 1st time for me too. From what I'm seeing mine is off by 20. I had added water because it read so low. the 3.00 one I just got is closer than this acurite. I'm worried. Lock down is Sat nite.

I have one that has both the inside & outside reading (an acurite). On mine, the probe only measures the temp, while the insturment itself measures both temp & humidity. I get two temp readings & one humidity reading on it.

I wish I had know before starting too. Thankfully, I was trying to do the dry hatch method, so even though my reading was 10%, I ended up keeping them at 40-45% instead of the intended 30-35% (I don't think the 40-45 is too high too hurt them). What humidity were you aiming for before discovering your hygrometer was off 20%? BTY, my acurite is 14% too low (the springfield was 10% off).
