Why you should only have one broody at a time

I now have four. Lost my only roo to a coyote a while ago. Have 6 cockerel "siblings," most of whom started to crow a couple of weeks ago, but haven't cracked a fertile egg yet.

No (few) eggs, no hatching chicks, no nuttin.' Except a few chicks I bought to stick under one broody -- who promptly kicked them out of the nest. Grrrr. I don't do chicks, that's your job, lady.

I have a broody right now that would gladly take your chicks. As I posted on FB just awhile ago....if I have to yell "those are not your chicks!" or yell at Impy one more time today.....

I've turned them loose in the coop a few times, hoping someone would be interested in parenting. One of the other broodies fluffed up at them, otherwise they have been ignored. It was my 2 yr old EE who'd already raised a bunch that kicked them out of the nest. Another one of my EE's is broody, too, same age, never been broody before. Took that one about 6 weeks to get over her end of the coyote attack -- then she went broody.

Sigh.

He's just being his usual buttheaded self. Scared the dickens out of the girls when a helicopter flew over. I thought he was going to lose his itty bitty mind. If he wasn't such a good daddy to all the various chicks......

It has got to be a May thing. Beens seeing a tone of posts all of a sudden on broodies. It is a broody outbreak!

I had 3 go broody, broke 2 and let 1 go for it. Now Alice is looking suspicously like she is trying to go broody. Looks like there are store bought eggs for eating in my future.

Well atleast I did not break down the broody breaker cage. If Alice is misbehaving in the nest box tomorrow in she will go.
